What does it mean to be Certified in EFT for Couples?

As you can imagine, couples therapy is not just individual therapy x 2. It is challenging. It takes different skills. It takes training.

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) certification is a rigorous process, involving a lot of time, effort, hard work, and yes, dollars. In a nutshell, it involves commitment to EFT and passion for the way it can help relationships. Certification involves, at its very minimum, 76 hours of intensive training, hours of one-on-one supervision, and hours of group supervision. Then as a final step and only with a supervisor's approval, the candidate sends in videotapes and written case studies of their EFT work with couples for review and critique by the International Centre for Excellence in EFT (ICEEFT, the governing Board for EFT). If the work is approved, then Certification is granted.

I am also a Certified EFT Supervisor, and went through a similar, rigorous certification process to earn that position as well.
