Therapy can seem mysterious. Add to that the reluctance and even dread people often feel about asking for help and so many who consider therapy never make that first call. I hope that the information presented here might make taking the first step a little easier.
Therapy starts with the right fit. Studies show that the most important factor in effective psychotherapy is the relationship built between the client and the therapist. From the first phone call, you will discover that I am warm and genuine, and that I really hear—and care—about what you have to say. In my office you will experience therapeutic conversation, not talking to a stone wall; I provide feedback, not silence. In the session, you will feel comfortable and safe enough to explore what is important to you.
My treatment approach begins with the client, in the recognition that everyone is exquisitely different. Even those who struggle with similar issues do so with unique perspective, temperament, and history, all of which makes each individual, and each experience, one-of-a-kind. Therefore, my approach does not come from a box. I work outside of the box using a solid foundation and training in the most effective psychotherapies—Emotionally Focused Therapy (I am a Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor), AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Discernment Counseling for Couples—that are tailored for each individual. I don’t promise a quick fix; if there was one, you would have already found it. But I do promise that together we will delve into where in your life you feel stuck, or unfulfilled, or overwhelmed, and why. We will explore the core of the issue, without neglecting the complicated relationships and outside stressors that influence, and are influenced by, the crux of your experience.
The purpose of therapy is change. And change can be hard, and often scary. But perhaps there is a part of you—however small—that wants, and maybe needs, change in your life. I invite you to take a chance. Make the call.
You deserve it.
